Microchip Identification
Several companies, like Home Alone and AVID, offer microchip identification. A microchip is a small capsule about the size of a grain of rice that is inserted under the skin between your dog or cats' shoulder blades with a syringe. This is an I.D. system that is permanent, so your pet can never lose, alter or damage it. You have an individual number assigned to each pet that is chipped. If your pet is lost, it can be taken to a vet or shelter nationwide and be scanned to check for your number. When your number comes up, the company that manufactured your chip is contacted, and then you or your veterinarian are contacted. Shelters and laboratories all over rountinely scan all animals they recieve. The best part is, not only dogs and cats can be chipped! Birds, reptiles, horses and ferrets can have permanent ID too! Contact your veterinarian today and set up an appointment to have your pets microchipped!
